I'm looking to get a flat screen TV and I want some advice.?

I am a college student with a limited budget. Due to size of the room, I almost decided to take a 32-inch TV. I have a decent amount of space for television, so the total size should not be a problem, but if the dark space. The TV will mainly be used for watching sports or play Xbox 360 does make a difference? So, basically, LCD or plasma? What can be said of an Emerson or a Vizio (plasma or LCD's). Ideally, I'd like to get a Sony or Samsung, but it's not really in my budget, so that some information on the best of the rest would also be welcome.

LT I connect my Sony to a TV for BluRay and HD screen sizes do not match. How do I compare them?

I connect with a cable HDMI and the laptop screen has a lot of black space around it on TV. TV 32 "vizio. No help?
