Does anyone have an emotional attachment to Microsoft? Is the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation helping?

I don't see any reason for ppl to have an emotional attachment to Microsoft... except now for maybe X-Box (and for a few X-Box enthusiasts, the Zune). I mean, Windows/Word/Access/Outlook/PowerPoint/Project/Visio are all tools that enable you to do mundane tasks... things we don't necessarily like to do. Kind of like Pep Boys or Midas or Arco - we need their services and they may be great companies, but they don't satisfy the "tastes Great!" part of your brain.

Contrast Microsoft with Sony, Apple, Linux, etc. People have a lot of personal investment with these comapnies/products - either emotionally or actually. With Sony and Apple, it is the entertainment factor. How much more "Tastes GREAT!" does it get? Apple has design down, so the eye candy factor doesn't hurt. Linux is, for the small percentage of people who use it, a platform that has emotional appeal because Linux is the underdog and many hackers have personally contributed to it.

My relationship to my computer is purely autosexual.
